REP. PATRICK C. WILLIAMS
House District 4

“He’s Doing It Again!”
“Walking the Walk III”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Who: Rep. Patrick Williams
What: Walk to Baton Rouge
Where: Start at LSU-Shreveport
When: March 13, 2010 9:00 a.m.
Why: Bring awareness to the education system; specifically childhood obesity and autism.

Rep. Patrick Williams, D-Shreveport, will start his walk from Shreveport to Baton Rouge on Saturday, March 13th, 9:00 a.m. at the LSUS campus. Depending on the weather, Rep. Williams and his supporters hope to arrive at the State Capitol steps on or before Monday, March 29th, the day the Legislature’s regular 2010 session will begin.

“We know that jobs, education, and healthcare are all linked. We can’t improve Louisiana without improving each of these.” Williams said. “That will take time and work … lots of work.”

The 226 miles from Shreveport to Baton Rouge is a task. Williams said he wants to draw our citizens’ attention – from one corner of the state to another—to the issues of childhood obesity and autism. “The distance and the effort symbolizes the work we all have ahead of us to improve Louisiana,” he said.

“I’m walking to remind the Governor and my colleagues in the Legislature that we must improve healthcare, education, and employment opportunities for the citizens of Louisiana. I’m walking to remind the citizens of our state that the dedicated men and women of the Legislature are working to improve life for us all,” Williams said.

“I’m walking to bring much-needed attention to these critical issues especially those dealing with our children. Childhood illnesses and epidemics such as Autism and Childhood Obesity are growing in our state and in the country. I am committed to doing whatever it takes to move Louisiana forward in resolving these issues that are affecting our children.” Williams said.

Taking the necessary steps to fight these and other childhood illnesses helps to create a good foundation for our children. It helps to keep them healthy, keep them in school, and launches them into a productive future in school, in the workforce, and in life.

“Our kids are 20 percent of our population but they are 100 percent of our future,” Williams said.
